Katie Taylor - the undisputed lightweight champion - withstood the relentless pressure of Delfine Persoon to win their rematch by a unanimous decision in the Matchroom Boxing on Saturday in Brentwood, England.
Taylor won 98-93, 96-94 and 96-94, while Boxing Junkie scored it 97-93 for Taylor.
As for Persoon (44-3, 18 KOs), she fought her typical fight, while Taylor (16-0, 6 KOs), who had difficulty coping last year, used poise, quick feet and sharp counterpunches to neutralize her Belgian rival.
The dramatic win for the former Olympian brought out a cheer from fellow Irish household names, including the Notorious Conor McGregor.
The former two-weight UFC champion took to social media and wrote: "Huge congrats Katie Taylor! Put that one to bed for sure, no questions! Top drawer stuff as always from Ireland’s greatest!".
MMA coach John Kavanagh and fellow Irish boxer Carl Frampton also sent their best wishes to Taylor.
The victory now brings Taylor’s record to 16-0 and she continues to hold her undisputed collection of WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO lightweight titles.
