Manu Bhaker has emerged as one of India's brightest sporting stars in the year 2018.

After winning gold medals at the ISSF World Cup, the 16-year-old pistol shooter claimed the yellow metal once again at the recently-concluded Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Gold Coast, Australia.

However, Bhaker was subjected to some serious insult upon her return to her hometown in Haryana. During a felicitation ceremony for her in Charkhi Dadri, Bhaker was made to sit on the floor once the VVIPs arrived.

The ceremony was conducted to honour medal winners at the CWG 2018 from Haryana. But it turned out to be a forgettable outing for young Bhaker. Along with her, Babita and Vinesh Phogat were also 'honoured' during the function. The photograph of Bhaker sitting on the floor has gone viral now.

Earlier this week, Haryana sports minister Anil Vij had announced that the state would give a prize of Rs 1.5 crore to gold medal winners from Haryana.

Vij congratulated athletes from Haryana for winning 22 medals including nine gold, six silver and seven bronze. Every silver medallist will get Rs 75 lakh while the bronze medal winners will be given a cash award of Rs 50 lakh.

India's new shooting sensations Anish Banwala, aged 15, and 16-year-old Bhaker hail from Haryana.

"It is a great achievement, they have made the country and the state proud. Thirty eight players from Haryana represented the country in the Commonwealth Games," he said.

"Every gold medal winner will be entitled for class A, silver medal winner for class B and bronze medal winner for class C job in Haryana government," Vij added.
