Roger Federer is out of hibernation and ready to begin the grass court season at Stuttgart Open on Wednesday. He also returned to social media, bringing his quirky sense of humour with him.

The 36-year-old skipped the clay court season, including the French Open. Rafael Nadal picked up the trophy at Roland Garros for the 11th time and maintained his number one spot in ATP Rankings. When Federer returns to court on the German city's slick lawns, he will be warming up to keep his Wimbledon championship, win the 21st grand slam, and regain the number one spot.

Federer will begin his Stuttgart campaign against German volley and serve guy Mischa Zverev on Wednesday. But before the on-court spectacle begins, Federer interacted with his fans on Twitter and the mischief in his responses was unmissable.

The Swiss athlete began with a question. "What did I miss?"

The first reply on that Tweet was an exaggerated reaction GIF of Alison Brie screaming 'everything.' To which Federer replied with a hilarious John Cena reaction GIF.

Another fan took his answer seriously and gave him a lowdown of what was the world up to when Federer was in Zambia working with his foundation.

But as it turned out, Federer was not completely out of touch. His response made it very clear.

Another fan reminded him that football world cup starts very soon, and asked if the Tennis star is excited about it. Federer revealed that he cannot wait for Thursday. And ever so optimistically added 'Switzerland might win it.'

Best reply came when a fan asked him what did his wife, Mirka, think of him coming back to competition.

'Finally, he is out of the house," replied Federer.

Looks like even with two sets of twins, Mirka would rather have Federer on the court than add to the chaos of the house filled with toddlers.

After sitting out the clay season to fully rest and prepare for the grass and last playing match in Miami on March 24, the 20-time grand slam winner is quietly confident that all is falling into place as he mounts his quest for a ninth Wimbledon trophy next month.

"There are a lot of things at stake," the Swiss, who enjoys a first-round bye, said. "I expected Rafa to win the French -- not taking anything away from him.

"But that creates a situation I was expecting. I know I have to reach the final here to get back to No. 1, that's an extra motivation.

"But I'm taking one thing at a time and not looking too far ahead. Margins on the grass are slim, it's not so simple to win a Grand Slam, it's seven matches -- that's a lot of tennis, " said Federer at the press conference before the Stuttgart Open.
