One of the best ever to play the game of tennis, Pete Sampras once led the list of most Grand Slam titles won by a male singles player. Since then Roger Federer (20), Rafael Nadal (17) and Novak Djokovic (15) have eclipsed his tally of 14. However, according to Sampras, there is one record that even these three great players would not be able to break.

At an event held by the International Hall of Fame, Sampras said that no one will be able to achieve the Calendar Grand Slam twice like Rod Laver did in 1962 and 1969.

"He's the most humble champion I've ever been around. His records are never going to be touched. Those two Grand Slams will never happen," added Sampras.

However, Laver himself had said that the calendar Grand Slam might happen again when asked about it during Australian Open.

Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open and is on the verge of completing another Grand Slam i.e. winning all the grand slam tournaments at one time for the second time, if he wins the French Open. Djokovic held all the big four titles back in 2015 too.

Rod Laver is considered by some as the greatest men’s Singles player ever. He won 11 Grand Slam titles and remains, to date, the only player to have completed the Calendar Slam twice. He did it in 1962 and 1969.

America's Don player Budge was the first ever tennis player to win a Calendar Slam. He remains, to date, the only men’s Singles Champion to have won six consecutive Grand Slam titles, starting from Wimbledon in 1937 and ending at the US Open in 1938.
