Dutee Chand created history by winning gold in the women’s 100-metre sprint at the 30th Summer University Games in Naples, Italy on Tuesday, clocking a time of 11.32 seconds.
This is India’s first gold medal at this edition. This is also the first time an Indian has won a 100-metre gold at a global event.

Dutee qualified for the final clocking 11.41 seconds in the semifinal earlier on Tuesday. No Indian has qualified for the 100-metre final in the history of the University Games before this.
After the medal, Dutee posted a picture of her with the gold medal and captioned it "Picked it up".

She even tweeted an inspiring message along with a picture of her medal and a mini mascot of the games. "Pull me down, I will come back stronger!," Dutee Chand said in a tweet.

She also holds the 100m national record with 11.24 seconds.
"With years of hard work and your blessings, I have yet again broken the record by winning the Gold in the 100m dash in 11.32 seconds at The World University Games, Napoli. In the pictures, are the winners too, with a heart of Gold from Germany and Sweden. @Napoli2019_ita," Chand tweeted.
