Everton's poor start to the season continued as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Burnley on Sunday with Irish midfielder Jeff Hendrick grabbing a 21st minute winner.

Burnley are unbeaten away from home this season and move up to sixth in the league while Everton languish in 16th place with just two wins in this campaign so far.

The questions over the future of Everton's Dutch manager Ronald Koeman will surely increase after a lacklustre display from his team, who were booed off the field by their own supporters.

Heavy investment by the club during the off-season raised hopes that Everton could compete with the top six this campaign but instead of progress, the team appear to be lost and without a clear plan.
Three of the summer signings, Dutch midfielder Davy Klaasen, Spanish striker Sandro Ramirez and former England captain Wayne Rooney, started on the bench.

Another of those brought in, Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson who signed for 45 million pounds had a chance to open the scoring in the sixth minute when the ball fell to him inside the area, but his soft shot was well dealt with by Burnley keeper Nick Pope.

Burnley's goal came at the end of a 24-pass move with Stephen Ward slipping the ball to Hendrick who smartly side-stepped his marker and fired past Jordan Pickford.

Koeman's Everton looked short of confidence and ideas and struggled to turn possession into chances even after the introduction of Wayne Rooney as a second-half substitute.
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin headed just wide from a Leighton Baines cross and they felt they should have had a penalty when the ball struck the hand of Burnley defender Matt Lowton inside the box.

Burnley sat deep and defended in numbers throughout the latter stages as they secured their second win of the campaign on the road following their opening day victory at Chelsea and draws at Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool.

That form is the best start to a top-flight season away from home for Burnley since 1966.
