Liverpool have contacted police after a video of Mohamed Salah apparently using his mobile phone while driving went viral on social media. The Premier League club said that they have alerted the Merseyside Police about the video.

In a footage circulating on social media, the Egypt international was filmed using his phone behind at the wheel of his car. The video is presumed to be taken after Liverpool's 4-0 victory over West Ham United on Sunday afternoon in their opening fixture of the 2018-19 Premier League season. Salah scored the first goal for his side in the match.

In the video, some fans seem to be jostling for the Salah's attention as his car stops at a traffic light. However, Salah keeps looking at his phone and then continues to use his device for few seconds as he wheels away from the traffic. Touching your mobile phone while driving is not allowed in England.

Liverpool, via a spokesperson, said that they have made the police aware of the situation.

The club will not make further comment on the matter as they would deal with the issue 'internally.'

"The club, after discussion with the player, have made Merseyside Police aware of the footage and the circumstances surrounding its capture," read the statement, as reported in the Liverpool Echo. "We have spoken to the player also and will deal with any follow-up internally.

"Neither the club or player will be making any further comment on this matter."

However, the whole matter has sparked a heated debate between fans of Liverpool and other football clubs.

While rival fans argued that Salah behaved arrogantly towards the fans, his supporters said that he was entitled to his privacy.

Salah is generally considered a 'nice guy' and is known for his great behaviour with fans. Such behaviour was on display during Liverpool's match against West Ham, when a kid invaded the pitch and gave him a hug before being escorted away.

Salah embraced the boy and whispered some words into his ear. He also asked the stewards to go easy on the kid.
