PCB chairman backs Misbah as ODI captain till 2015 World Cup

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Shaharyar Khan has backed the team's captain Misbahul Haq by letting him keep his captaincy till the 2015 World Cup. The Express Tribune reports that Shaharyar spoke with both Misbah and head coach Waqar Younis separately in a bid to dissect the poor results of the Sri Lanka tour.

The report quoted a PCB official as saying that the chairman had backed Misbah as captain as there was hardly any time left before the 2015 World Cup. After the rather poor show put up by the Pakistan team in ODI in Sri Lanka, many former Test captains including Mohammad Yousuf and Rashid Latif had asked for Misbah to be replaced with all-rounder Shahid Afridi as captain.

Misbah said the he himself felt that his inability to contribute with the bat was one of the reasons for the team's poor performances in Sri Lanka. He further added that he tries to remain positive and does not take pressure because that's no solution to any problem. The Misbah-led side lost the Test series 2-0 and the three-match ODI series 2-1.
