Star Indian cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur was recently appointed a Deputy Superintendent of Police with the Punjab police, it was revealed.

Taking to Twitter, Harmanpreet said, "Excited about joining @PunjabPolice as DSP. Thank you Chief Minister @capt_amarinder Ji for pursuing my bond waiver with @RailMinIndia. Your support & encouragement will always keep me motivated to deliver my best. And thank you also @PiyushGoyal Ji for your help in the matter(sic)."

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, too, expressed pride in inducting the Indian women's T20 captain, saying, "Proud to join DGP Suresh Arora  in pinning the stars on the uniform of this young cricketer @ImHarmanpreet as she takes over as DSP in @PunjabPolice. This lady has done us proud and I’m confident she’ll continue to do so. My best wishes are with her.(sic)"

Harmanpreet had already completed three year of service as Office Superintendent at Western Railway.

She had resigned from the Railways last year. Her medical test for the post of DSP had already been completed but she could not join as Indian Railway did not relieve her.

The Chief Minister expressed his happiness over the development, saying that the state was proud to have Harmanpreet as part of its police force.

Amarinder has also thanked Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal for accepting his request, said the spokesperson, pointing out that the Chief Minister had personally taken up the matter with the minister.

The Chief Minister had offered the DSP post to Harmanpreet in July last year, following her scintillating performance in the Women's World Cup 2017.

More recently, she became the first woman cricketer from the country to sign a bat endorsement deal with CEAT

Harmanpreet, who signed a two-year deal with CEAT, joins the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane and Ishan Kishan. She will now be seen playing with a bat prominently displaying CEAT insignia in all formats of the game.
