Incident

Chelsea hosted Manchester United in a premier league match at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. After trailing 0-1, Manchester United equalised at 1-1 before they took a 2-1 lead, thanks to Martial’s strike in the 74th minute.

Man United, who had never won nor even scored a goal under Jose Mourinho at his former club, almost won the match before substitute Ross Barkley earned Chelsea a last-gasp 2-2 draw.

As soon as Chelsea scored the 95th-minute goal, their charged up assistant coach Marco Ianni celebrated the goal a bit wildly right in the front of Mourinho, leaving the manager raging.

An offended Mourinho, who had earlier promised to display the best of his behaviours, leaped out of his seat, seemingly in an effort to confront the offender, but he was prevented by doing so by the interference of several stewards.

Who is Marco Iaani?

Ianni is Maurizio Sarri’s second assistant coach at Chelsea. These two go back in history when Sarri had recruited Ianni at Napoli as his technical assistant and the two had worked together in the Italian club for three years.

The 1982-born Ianni then followed Sarri to Chelsea as his second assistant coach the English Premier League club.

Mourinho’s reaction to the brawl

I have a certain level of education, socially and in the sport. What I did here today I would do in Porto and Madrid and Milan, try to behave always the same way, which I did. The reaction of the fans is up to them. I am not annoyed with anything. What happened was with Sarri’s assistant, and Sarri came to me and said he would resolve the problem internally.

Then Sarri’s assistant came to me in Sarri’s office and apologised, and I said if you really feel that way and want to apologise, of course, I accept it, and forget it because I have made lots of mistakes in my career and I’m not going to kill you because of one. It is over, he apologised, and I accepted it!”
