Manchester City have became the Premier League champions. City were confirmed as PL champions after Manchester United suffered a shock defeat at home to bottom club West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

City are 16 points clear of second-placed United who have no chance of surpassing the lead with only five games to go.

After all their efforts to stop City from clinching the league in their 3-2 derby win last week, United offered a clear reminder of why they have not been serious contenders for the title this year with an abject display, lacking in creativity.

A 73rd minute header from Jay Rodriguez gave Albion, who appear doomed to relegation, their first away win in 16 outings and just their fourth victory of the season.

United midfielder Nemanja Matic had headed a corner across his own goal area and Rodriguez reacted quickly to nod home the winner.

Jose Mourinho's side had dominated possession but created few clear chances and their loss leaves City 16 points clear with just five games remaining.

West Brom's former United keeper Ben Foster dealt with the few real efforts that came from United's attack -- keeping out a close-range strike from Romelu Lukaku in the 19th minute and then a header from the Belgian in the 66th.

Mourinho threw on Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in the second half. But flooding his attack with players did nothing to alter their inability to open up a well-disciplined West Brom defence playing their second game under caretaker manager Darren Moore.

Pep Guardiola’s side were on the brink of securing the title after an impressive performance in beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Wembley on Saturday.

Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling scored for City either side of an Ilkay Gundogan penalty as they bounced back in style from the disappointment of their Champions League quarter-final exit at the hands of Liverpool in midweek.

It had been a traumatic week for City, who threw away a two-goal interval lead to lose 3-2 at home to United in the derby last weekend, missing the chance to become champions in front of their own fans at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola has won titles with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, while also conquering the Champions League during his Camp Nou reign.
But the Spaniard believes leading City to the title would rank among his finest moments.

“It’s more difficult (to win in England). Physicality, weather conditions, the amount of games. The Premier League is so, so tough,” Guardiola said.

“It’s one of the best by far. Winning titles in every league is important, with Barcelona was special.

“But the Premier League is one of the nicest and most important.”

Manchester City posted a live video of reactions of fans after City became champions.
