Former Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is unlikely to return to club football as a manager. However, there is one thing that may lure him back- if he is offered the opportunity to take over a ‘big’ Premier League club in order for him to get revenge on Manchester United.

Van Gaal was removed from his position at Old Trafford and replaced by Jose Mourinho just days after winning the FA Cup. The Dutch has not taken any managerial duty since then. He recently claimed that he was uninterested in managing Borussia Dortmund because they were a ‘small club’.

Van Gaal had also ruled himself out of the running at Everton, before Sam Allardyce took charge at Goodison Park.

He admitted that he’s unlikely to continue in club management, but he would make an exception should he get the opportunity to ‘get one over on Manchester United’ by joining one of the Premier League’s elite clubs.

"I will probably not manage a club anymore," he admitted. "I would make one exception — if a big English club comes for me, than I would do it. Because then I can get the chance to get one over on Manchester United."

Van Gaal has said that he holds nothing against Mourinho for taking his job. However, he was not happy with United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward’s handling of his exit, with Mourinho essentially hired before the Dutchman was let go.

"Woodward should have come to me and we could have worked on that," he added. "I have nothing against Jose."
