Paris St Germain fought back after falling behind to secure a point in a 1-1 draw at Strasbourg on Wednesday, their second successive draw after a record-breaking 14 league wins in a row.

The Parisians are runaway leaders of Ligue 1, with 44 points from 16 games, 14 ahead of second-placed Lille.

The momentum PSG had built up after a remarkable start to the season slowed on Sunday when they drew 2-2 with Girondins de Bordeaux and they once again laboured at Strasbourg, a team who had won just one of their previous five games.

PSG started without attacking trio Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria and they fell behind four minutes before halftime when the referee awarded a penalty for handball after viewing the infringement as part of the VAR system.

Right back Kenny Lala sent the PSG keeper the wrong way to open the scoring with his fourth goal of the season.

PSG brought on Mbappe early in the second half and it was the teenage striker who forced the breakthrough after 71 minutes when he was brought down in the box by Lala.

Edinson Cavani took the penalty and levelled the scores to the relief of the visiting fans.

Strasbourg thought they had scored a winner in stoppage time but Adrien Thomasson's header was ruled out for offside.

Elsewhere in Ligue 1, Dijon won 2-1 at home to Guingamp to move up to 16 points, three points clear of the relegation zone.

A last-minute goal by Loick Landre gave Nimes a 2-1 win over Caen, who are level on 13 points with Monaco and Amiens with Guingamp the only club below them with eight points.

Bordeaux beat St Etienne 3-2 and Nantes beat Olympique de Marseille by the same scoreline.

Stade Rennais, who fired their coach on Monday, got a surprise 2-0 win at Olympique Lyonnais, and Toulouse also won away, scoring the only goal of the game against Stade de Reims.
