Jack Daniels, the legendary running coach from USA, has a simplistic reason behind running almost every single day even at the age of 85.

“I want to live longer, it’s as simple,” Daniels told DNA. “I figure if I run, my health will be better and I’ll live for another 20 years. I still run 30 minutes a day.”

Labelled as the “The World’s Best Running Coach” by Runner’s World magazine, the octogenarian is on his first ever visit to India to offer a coaching perspective ahead of the Pune Half Marathon to be held in December.

Daniels, who has coached many American Olympic runners, said that India will start producing world-class long-distance runners once kids are exposed to the sport from a young age and have the four pillars to succeed: skills, motivation, opportunity and good coaches.

He also urged Indians to take up running as a daily exercise. “Running is the single most important physical activity. It is easy, you don’t have to learn a skill, and you will improve your physical and mental strength,” he said.
