International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) letter to sports federations across the world may make it difficult for India to hos international events in future.

In a letter following India’s failure to issue Visa to Kosovo’s boxing contingent for the women’s World Boxing Championship being held in New Delhi, the IOC urged sports federations across the world to ensure that written guarantees are obtained from host countries before awarding any international events.

In the letter, IOC’s head of international relations and governance Jerome Poive said: “The latest incident occurred in India, where the sporting delegation and athletes from Kosovo were not allowed to come and participate in a world boxing championship (this year and last year).”

“This shows clearly that, until this matter is seriously addressed and resolved by the competent Indian authorities, India is not in a position to host international sporting events in which a sporting delegation from Kosovo is due to take part.”

“The IOC strongly recommends that before allocating any international sports events to a country, all international sports organisations concerned make sure that all the necessary written guarantees are obtained from the local authorities/organiser.”

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Narender Batra on Tuesday conveyed the sentiments of IOA letter to Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and asked its president Ajay Singh to try and sort out the issue with government.

With Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and International Boxing Federation (AIBA) expressing their concern over Kosovo issue, if the visa issue of such nature is not resolved soon, there is little possibility of India hosting hosting the 2012 men’s World Boxing Championships.
