Following the terror attack in Manchester, the Indian cricket team has been assured of fool proof security as they leave for England on Wednesday to participate in the Champions Trophy.

As the news of the bomb blasts in the Manchester Arena came out, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote to England Cricket Board (ECB) regarding safety of Team India who will defend the Champions Trophy, beginning next week (June 1).

At least 22 people were killed and 59 wounded in an explosion at the end of a concert by US singer Ariana Grande in Manchester on Monday night.

"The ICC will hold a meeting later in the day to address the issue in the wake of the terror attack in Manchester," an ICC official told DNA.

ECB replied to BCCI, saying: "All concerns regarding the teams' safety during the event are being taken care of."

As per the information, ICC will have a conference call later in the day with stakeholders joining from various places. "How and what happens will be conveyed to all the participating teams," said the official.

India are scheduled to open their campaign in a high-voltage encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan at Edgbaston on June 4.

"We expect huge turn out for the Indo-Pak clash in England. That's why the security is of utmost importance to us. But we've been assured of fool-proof security by ECB," said a senior BCCI official.

India will play Sri Lanka on June 8 and South Africa on June 11 at the Kennington Oval in London.

"We operate on advice from our Tournament Security Directorate — in conjunction with the ECB and relevant authorities — to ensure that we have a robust safety and security plan for both tournaments.

"The security situation has been very much front and centre of our preparations and we constantly review our procedures to guarantee they are as effective as possible to keep everyone safe. We do not disclose our security details as a matter of policy," an ICC statement said.
