Mohun Bagan edged rival East Bengal to secure a thrilling 1-0 win in the Kolkata derby of the I-League at the Salt Lake stadium on Sunday. This defeat makes it a six consecutive loss East Bengal against city rivals Bagan.
Nigerian defender Kingsley Obumneme, who was signed from champion Aizawl FC in the off-season, scored the winning goal in the 38th minute. Kingsley headed the winner home from a Sonny Norde corner kick in front of a 64,000 plus in attendance.
Though the final scoreline read just 1-0, the match had plenty of action as both teams came close to scoring.
