Two-time champions Ghana made a perfect comeback to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup after a gap of 10 years by defeating Colombia 1-0 in their inaugural game here on Friday.

It was Sadiq Ibrahim's first-half strike that ensured full three points for Ghana.

It was not an easy outing for the African champions as Colombia matched them in pace and tactics. But the attacking quartet of wingers Ibrahim, Emmanuel Toku and strikers Aminu Mohammed and Eric Ayiah made all the difference in the end.

Ayiah was seen flowing effortlessly in and outside Colombia's half. His efforts in the 14th minute came off the goal post. Again after 12 minutes, Ayiah created space from the left by sending a beautiful cross in for Ibrahim on the other side but the header was off target.

Ibrahim found the net after six minutes but was called off-side. However, the duo of Ayiah-Ibrahim were not deterred as they managed to net the only goal of the match within next six minutes.

Several more attempts were thwarted by Colombian goalie in the second half, with Ibrahim coming close to net another time early in the second half. The Colombian defence fought well but their forward line failed to breach the opponent wall.

Winger Leandro Campaz was their star of the day as he kept Ghanian defence in check.

Ghana will play US in their next match.
