Spanish soccer player Iker Casillas, 37, has suffered a heart attack and has been taken to hospital, the Portuguese radio station Renascenca reported on Wednesday, adding that the Porto player was out of danger.

Casillas, who made 167 appearances as a goalkeeper for the Spanish national team, suffered the attack during a morning training session with his club and was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with myocardial infarction, the radio said.

He is recovering in hospital and is not expected to play again for the club this season.

"Iker Casillas suffered an acute heart attack during Wednesday morning's training session," Porto said in a statement.

"The training session was promptly interrupted to provide assistance to the Porto goalkeeper, who is currently at the Hospital CUF Porto.

"Casillas is doing well, he's stable and his heart problem has been resolved."
