Chile joined three neighboring South American countries in a bid to host the 2030 soccer World Cup, according to a joint statement from their governments released on Thursday.

The bid, which previously included only Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, is up against bids from England, and another bid from Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.

The 2030 World Cup will mark the centennial of soccer's most important championship. The tournament will be held 100 years after Uruguay won the inaugural World Cup as hosts in 1930.

Chile had hosted the World Cup in 1962 and the last time the competition was held in South America was the 2014 edition in Brazil.

In 1978, Argentina had staged the World Cup while Paraguay are aiming to be hosts for the first time.
