Ex-tennis legend John Alexander, Liberal Member for Bennelong, in the House of Representatives, Australian Parliament has spoken about the Pulwama terror attack which killed 40 CRPF jawans. Speaking in Parliament on Tuesday he said he joins the Australian PM Scott Morrison in condemning this attack. “My deepest condolences to the victims and their families,” he said and added, “We need to stand united in the face of terror and it is reassuring to see the condemnation for the attack coming from across the world. I want India and Indians to the world over to know that we in the Australian Parliament are with them.”

He pointed out how his electorate of Bennelong is the largest multicultural one in Australia with a sizeable population of Australians of Indian heritage. “This community is deeply connected to their roots back in their country of origin and I know how unfortunate events like this affect them,” he said and reminded the Parliament of how hardworking the community is and how richly they have contributed to Australia.

The Australian South Asia Forum (ASAF) has lauded John Alexander for his statement. “This underlines once again how our MP is a great friend of India,” said Sydney resident Aashish Gholkar of ASAF. “We are grateful for his strong condemnation of the Pulwama terror attack in the Parliament and reaffirming how the Australian Parliament stands with India.”
