India's Saina Nehwal silenced her critics on Sunday after she pulled off a spectacular victory against teammate and rival PV Sindhu in what commentators said was an 'epic final'.

Although Saina won in straight games, the end result 21-18, 23-21 showed that the match was not a one-sided event.

While speaking to Indian Express Saina said, there was too much pressure. "If I lose, people say Saina is getting old, she should retire," she said.

Saina displayed some superb form to clinch a 21-18, 23-21 victory in the final.

Saina was pushed to the brink by 2014 silver medallist Kristy Gilmour in their semi-final match. It took 68 minutes for the match to finally finish 21-14 18-21 21-17 in Saina’s favour. Sindhu, on the other hand, made light work of defending CWG champion Michelle Li, winning the match in 28 minutes. Their match will be followed by Kidambi Srikanth taking on Malaysian great Lee Chong Wei in the men’s singles final.

India had very productive field day on Day 10 of the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast on Saturday, winning 17 medals. This is India's biggest medal haul in a single day so far. India won 8 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 4 bronze medals on Saturday.

India are now placed third in the medal tally with 62 medals (26 gold, 17 silver and 19 bronze)- behind leaders Australia and England.
