Coronavirus Pandemic: Novak Djokovic vows to donate Rs 8.36 crore to combat COVID-19

Serbian tennis maestro Novak Djokovic and wife Jelena Djokovic have confirmed that they will be donating 1 million euros (INR 8,36,17,773) to help the people of Serbia amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The virus has brought all sports activities to a halt and players are practising social distancing and self-isolation during the pandemic. The World Health Organisation (WHO) and the governments all around are urging people to stay at home.

The donated money will go towards purchasing ventilators and medical equipment for hospitals and healthcare institutions in Serbia.

"My wife @jelenadjokovic and I have donated 1 million euros via @novakfoundation for the purchase of medical equipment to help fight #COVID19 in Serbia. We are in this together," Djokovic's post on Twitter read.

"I pray for the health and healing of you. Please stay at home in quarantine and help frontline medical people to help all the people infected and in need. Let's not burden them in these critical times more than they already are," Djokovic had shared the message on his Instagram.
