COA wants acting officials removed from BCCI

Going by the audio recording of the last two BCCI's Special General Meetings, it was only Amitabh who is being heard as telling all other state cricket association members to "try and implement the reforms".

Nearly six months have gone down the drain since the Committee of Administrators (COA) were given mandate to implement the Supreme Court orders. Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) acting officials are facing the biggest challenge of their lives to save their respective positions after the filing of latest status report on Wednesday.

COA, in a scathing report submitted to the SC, has sought the removal of acting president CK Khanna, secretary Amitabh Choudhary and treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry for non-compliance of Justice Lodha Panel reforms ordered by the top court on July 18, 2016.

The biggest surprise in the report is the sudden U-turn taken by Vinod Rai and Co. on the acting secretary. One has to remember that the same Amitabh was praised by COA in its previous status report submitted last month for his co-operation in implementing the orders. What has gone wrong in just one meeting since then is hard to understand.

Going by the audio recording of the last two BCCI's Special General Meetings, it was only Amitabh who is being heard as telling all other state cricket association members to "try and implement the reforms".

In fact, he even has rubbed his former mentor N Srinivasan on the wrong side by changing his stance after becoming the acting secretary.

One could relate this to the incident when Amitabh, along with other members, barred CEO Rahul Johri and the legal team from attending the SGM on July 26. COA's fifth status report, a 26-page report, has now requested the Court to hand over the "governance, management and administration" of the Board to them. Not stopping there, COA has further suggested that CEO Johri should be given the sole responsibility of run the board affairs.

"It is clear that current office-bearers are not in position to make good on their undertakings and ensure that reforms mandated by this Hon'ble Court is implemented," COA has submitted.

Shukla wants to be in picture

In yet another development, Indian Premier League chairman Rajiv Shukla met CEO Johri here on Wednesday. DNA has reliably learnt that Shukla has been trying hard to stay relevant in the current scenario and is being propped up by powerful lobby.

The two were seen together at the BCCI's office in Delhi.

It is another thing that Shukla has no numbers to back his claim as he is being only seen as a "facilitator" and has no stakes in whatever happens inside the BCCI. He also managed to stay as IPL chairman last season by using all possible means.

More than Rs 1 cr allowances claimed

Meanwhile, it has been brought to everybody's attention how BCCI has been incurring huge expenses on its office-bearers.

For example, acting treasurer Anirudh splurged nearly Rs 1.71 crore in the last two years (2015-16 & 2016-17) while Amitabh was not too far behind with Rs 1.56 crore in the same period.

Even sacked BCCI president Anurag Thakur collected nearly 17.99 lakh as allowances during his short stint in 2015-16. Overall, a total of Rs 24 lakh are listed against his name and this doesn't include his travel bills.

If Anirudh pocketed more than Rs 92 lakh as allowances, then Amitabh got Rs over 71 lakhs as allowances during the same period.
