AS Roma staged one of the biggest comebacks of UEFA Champions League history to knock out Barcelona as they won the quarter final second leg 3-0 match at Stadio Olimpico (4-4 aggregate).

Barcelona had won the first leg 4-1 at Camp Nou but they were knocked out on basis of away goals as Roma dominated the second leg  on Wednesday.

Edin Dzeko's goal in the 80th minute of last week’s match — the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal at Camp Nou — proved to be the differnce between the sides in the end.

It was Dzeko who started the goal scoring in the second leg as well. He made a run off a long ball over the top by Daniele De Rossi, and poked home from close range in the 6th minute.

However, as Roma went just 1-0 up at half-time it looked like Barcelona were still heading to the semifinals.

But the Barcelona defense were caught sleeping again when Dzeko ran onto a chipped ball. Gerard Pique pulled him down in the box. De Rossi converted the penalty.

Roma’s third goal came as the result of some more terrible defending. Kostas Manolas headed in a corner in the 82nd minute after a near post run that no Barca defender spotted.

Roma's defense held its own in the final eight minutes to send them in the UEFA Champions League semifinals.
