A BJP lawmaker T Raja Singh in a controversial statement called India's tennis star player Sania Mirza a Pakistani-Bahu (Pakistan's daughter-in-law) and demanded that she should be removed as the brand ambassador of Telangana. This controversial statement by a BJP legislator has come after 40 CRPF soldiers were martyred in the Pulwama terror attack.

The BJP legislature in a video message asked chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao that it was now time to break all sorts of links with Pakistan for harbouring terror.

BJP lawmaker T Raja Singh said that the cowardly act of killing soldiers of Indian armed forces was an unpardonable act which has been condemned by the entire nation. Raja Singh lauded chief minister KCR's move to cancel his birthday celebrations in wake of the Pulwama attack and demanded that Sania Mirza should be removed as state ambassador by calling her Pakistan's daughter-in-law.

Sticking to his demand, Raja Singh said that the Indian government after the Pulwama attack is trying to isolate Pakistan in every possible manner at the world forum, therefore, he felt that it wouldn't be appropriate for Telangana to be represented by Sania Mirza as the brand ambassador.

Sania Mirza was named as Telangana's official brand ambassador in July 2014 and has been representing the state at various official forums since then. She got married to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik in 2010.

Sania Mirza was recently targeted on social media for posting a picture wearing a modern dress when the nation was mourning Pulwama attack martyrs. However, she took to Twitter and said that she did not need to condemn the attack publicly or on social media. In her message, Sania Mirza wrote on Twitter, "We are against terrorism and anyone that spreads ... but I will still be praying for peace." So far, there has been no reaction from Sania Mirza or chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on BJP legislator's demand.

On February 14, at least 40 CRPF personnel sacrificed their lives when an SUV loaded with explosives blew of near two buses of army convoy having 78 buses carrying CRPF personnel to Kashmir. The killing of 40 Indian soldiers is being seen as the worst terror attack on the Indian armed forces. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that perpetrators of terror don't know what mistake they have done and mentioned that the Army has been given full freedom to decide how and when the Pulwama attack will be avenged.
