Recently-crowned Indonesia Open champion Kidambi Srikanth on Saturday defeated the fourth seed China's Shi Yuqi in the semi-finals of the men's singles event of the Australian Open Super Series at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre.

Srikanth dominated net shots and endured tiring rallies to send Shi Yuqi packing in mere 37 minutes. The Indonesian Open winner made short work of the Chinese with 21-10, 21-14 win. He will face the winner of the match between China's Chen Long and Korea's Lee Hyun Il in the final.

Srikanth continued his fine form as he defeated fellow countryman B. Sai Praneeth 25-23, 21-17 in a thrilling all-Indian last-eight clash that lasted 45 minutes on Friday.

Last Sunday, the Indian shuttler had come out with a spectacular performance as he defeated unseeded Kazumasa Sakai of Japan in straight games to win the men's singles title of the Indonesia Super Series Premier badminton tournament in Jakarta.

This was Srikanth's second Super Series Premier title after he won the 2014 China Open Super Series Premier. Overall, it is his third Super Series title as he has also emerged champion at the Indian Open Super Series in 2015.

The brilliant news comes on the back of two major losses in the form PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal. The Rio medallist lost to world no. 1 and top seed Tai Tzu Ying of the Chinese Taipei for the seventh time in her career. Nehwal, on the other hand, followed the suit by losing 17-21, 21-10, 17-21 against Chinese Sun Yu in the women's singles quarter-final.
