India vs Canada Highlights, Hockey World Cup 2018: India beat Canada 5-1 to enter quaterfinaIs- as it happened

It was a commanding performance from India, specially in the final quarter, to earn a direct quartefinal qualifcation. Canada gave India some nervous moments in the second and third quarters but in the end they will end up third in the group. They will join Belgium for the crossovers from Pool B.

It was a great run from Sumit down the right. He knew Lalit was in position at the face of the post. Sumit pulled off the perfect cross and Lalit easily slotted it home. Very good looking goal from India.

India are bossing it around now - they have matched the score of Belgium vs South Africa match with this strike.

Amit Rohidas scored India's 4th goal. He played it across and changed the angel in the last second to get keeper out of position and slot it into the right corner.

Meanwhile, James Kilpatrick has picked up a Yellow Card.

It started with Chinglensana's strike in the very first minute of the 4th quarter. Before, Canada could recover Lalit Upadhya sent another one down to consolidate India's lead. Great stuff.

Mandeep with the attack down the right plnk and enters the circle. He plays the cross but Lalit fails to give it the final touch.

Canada forced a turnover from a mistake by Simranjeet and executed a fine counter-attack to score. Things are back on level terms now and both teams are heading to cross-overs. There is no doubt Belgium will be keeping an eye on the score as well.

Canada dominated the possession and pass accuracy by 56-44 and 67%-61% respectively. However, it was India who managed more circle entries at 7 than Canada's 4. There were no penalty corners in this quarter.

Meanwhile, here are some stats on India's dominance in the first half. They led in possession by 53-47, shots 5-0, Pass Accuracy 67 %- 57 % and penalty corners 3-0.

Iain Smythe gets a Green Card in the 22nd minute of the match.

India, are back on attack in the second quater. They have dominated the match so far and controlled the ball. At the other end, Sreejesh has had hardly to do anything.

Another PC! 

However, this time the Canada defenders were ready for Harmanpreet Singh. It was blocked with ease as India keep on knocking.

Another Penalty Corner! This time Harmanpreet Singh's drag-flick finds the back of the net. India score the opening goal of the match in the 12th minute.

Penalty Corner! India get the first PC of the game. Harmanpreet Singh sends a powerful drag-flick but Canada defenders managed to keep it out.

SAVE! Another Indian attack- Chinglensana Singh makes a good cross from the right flank. However, Canada goalkeeper Antoni Kindler is up for the task and blocks the ball with ease.

India have 4 points from 2 matches with +5 goal difference. 

What happens if India lose? 

India will still make it to the cross-overs. If India lose by more than 6 goals than they will finish third. If not they will finish second. If India win they will top the group and go into the quarterfinals direct. 

Belgium just crushed South Africa 5-1 in their last Pool C match. 

So what does India need to do?

Belgium are now at top of the group with 7 points from 3 matches with a positive goal difference of 5. It means India just need to win the match against Canada to qualify for the quarterfinals.
