Germany face their day of reckoning at the Football World Cup on Wednesday with the holders in danger of crashing out of the FIFA World Cup 2018.

Joachim Loew's team hope to follow in the footsteps of Argentina after the 2014 World Cup finalists scraped into the last 16 after a dramatic 2-1 win over Nigeria on Tuesday.

Mexico lead Group F with six points, while Germany and Sweden share the second spot with three points each and South Korea are at the bottom with zero points.

Germany will go out of the World Cup if they lose the match against South Korea. Even a win against their Asian opponent does not assure them of a place in Round of 16.

Germany need a clear and big win over South Korea to be sure of reaching the last 16 of FIFA World Cup 2018.

If Germany win the match 1-0 and Sweden win the match against Mexico by a one goal difference then Germany can crash out of group.

The Germans stumbled to a shock 1-0 defeat to Mexico, then needed a stunning 95th-minute winning goal from Toni Kroos with 10 men to beat Sweden 2-1 and keep alive fading hopes of progressing.

The best case would be for Joachim Löw's men to beat South Korea by two or more goals. It they manager to do that, Germany would be through to the round of 16 no matter what else happens in the group. However, should they lose by two or more, they'd be out.

If Germany and Sweden draw, then the team in the higher-scoring game will finish second. If both draws are with the same score, Germany finish second due to their head-to-head win over Sweden.

South Korea match can go through by beating Germany if Sweden lose to Mexico in Ekaterinburg, providing the Koreans finish with a better goal difference than their rivals.

Germany have not been eliminated in the first round of a World Cup since 1938.
