Atletico Madrid star Marcos Llorente will remember the Liverpool journey he embarked on in March 2020 as that trip and performance just proved to be the shot in the arm for his career.

Getting swapped from the rival club Real Madrid, Llorente had a scratchy start to his Atletico career. But, the game against Liverpool in Anfield was just what docto ordered for him.

He didn't start in the XI and came in as substitute, but that substitute appearance was enough to send the reining European champions Liverpool crashing down at Anfield.

After being 0-2, Llorente struck from outside the area to catch out Adrian. He repeated the feat a few minutes later to get his side over the line, with some help from Alvaro Morata.

That night and spectacular performance turned fortunes of Llorente as his manager Diego Simeone has moved him into attacking role for the new season.

Speaking to Daily Star Sport UK, Llorente said, "“That match at Anfield was a turning point in my career. “It was a match that changed my life. Some games you do well and some games you don’t do so well, but I did play very well in that match. And I think I have continued to play well since.

“Things are going well so I’m very happy about that.”

Not just for Llorente, that evening was special for his mother too as she decided to pay a tribute to his son's man-of-the-match performance by naming her dog 'Anfield', the ground where her son produced that magical performance.
