The records continue for the Indian skipper
Updated : Oct 29, 2017, 05:03 PM IST
Virat Kohli on Sunday became the sixth Indian to complete 9000 ODI runs during the series-deciding third game against New Zealand in Kanpur.
Kohli got to the landmark in the 37th over when he guided one off Grandhomme towards the third man for a four.
The 28-year-old has broken AB de Villiers' record of being the fastest cricketer to reach the milestone, with the South African taking 205 innings.
The run machine Kohli also brought up his 32nd ODI ton and became the first captain to smash six tons in a calendar year.
Overall, Kohli, who played his 202nd innings today, has become the 19th batsman to breach the 9000-run mark, making him the fastest to get there.
On Sunday, Kohli also became the first batsman to amass 2000 runs in international cricket in 2017.
Virat Kohli now has 2000 runs in 2017 across all international formats:

Tests: 449
ODIs: 1356*
T20Is: 195#IndvNZ
Earlier in the series, the Indian captain had surpassed Australian great Ricky Ponting in the list of most ODI hundreds with his 31st ton.
Tendulkar tops the list with 49 hundreds and he is also the leading run-getter in the format.
Kohli had a quiet series against the Australians by his standards but he is back to his best against the Black Caps.
Twitter was full of praise for the Indian skipper
Excellent innings from Kohli. He's getting hundreds like we used to put tally marks in stats.

The most endearing quality of Kohli is to take the backseat...he can match Rohit shot for shot but never falls in that trap. Team First.

Prev: Ricky Ponting 1424 runs in 2007#IndvNZ
Today, Virat Kohli is playing the role of Rahul Dravid by letting the other guy score a century while hanging in there. #INDvNZ
