The CEAT cricket awards were low on fashion but high on star power, as some of the world’s finest cricketers assembled to celebrate the success of their colleagues. While Gautam Gambhir sported a not-so-fashionable round-neck T-shirt and teamed it up with jeans, he went on to be awarded the best player of 2008-2009. The entire Sri Lankan team were in T-shirts, sporting their team colours. Thank God for Mallika Sherawat, she brought some heavy duty oomph on the show as she gave a jaw-dropping dance performance. Mansi Scott looked hot in her red ensemble and emceed the show with ease, alongside Charu Sharma. Yet the photo-op of the evening came when corporate honchos Kumarmangalam Birla and Harsh Goenka chatted up with each other and exchanged a few smiles. P.S.: Captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team Kumar Sangakkara was constantly talking about how and why Test cricket needs to be saved. He felt that due to the growing popularity of T20 and one-day internationals, the five-day cricket format is hardly drawing people to stadiums across the world. Winners both: Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag
