After Pele, Oliver Kahn, Diego Maradona, Gerd Muller and Diego Forlan, it was the turn of Lionel Messi to set foot on football-crazy Kolkata. The Barcelona striker mesmerised one and all with his presence during the first international friendly in the country between Argentina and Venezuela. The 85,000 spectators at the Salt Lake Stadium were floored by ‘Messi magic’ as he dazzled on the field. Also, Blackburn Rovers became the first Premier League side to play in India when they took on Pune FC in October. They have paved the way for many more international clubs to make it to India, the first one being Bayern Munich in January 2012.
