Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored again to give AC Milan a battling 1-0 home win over Genoa on Saturday.

The Rossoneri, third in Serie A last term, recorded their second win from five league games thanks to the Swede netting his second goal in Serie A and fourth overall since he joined on an initial loan from Barcelona.

The former Inter frontman scored four minutes into the second half following Andrea Pirlo's assist after Genoa had dominated the first period, forcing Milan keeper Christian Abbiati into one spectacular save at a nervous San Siro.

Four players transferred between the clubs in the last window and familiarity led to a slightly dour affair, although Mathieu Flamini could have doubled Milan's lead late on after a good move involving Ibrahimovic and Robinho.

Milan have failed to gel under new coach Massimiliano Allegri but the narrow win after two successive league draws will give the side confidence heading into Tuesday's Champions League clash at Ajax Amsterdam.

Champions Inter Milan travel to last season's runners-up but early strugglers AS Roma in the late game (1845 GMT) before Sunday's main programme of matches.

The weekend's games went ahead after a Serie A players' strike was postponed following talks between the union and the league in a dispute over a collective contract.
