Zaheer Khan, recuperating from a shoulder injury, would have loved to have a go at the Australians. Though Zaheer’s name didn’t feature in the squad, named for the first two ODIs, he is keeping a close watch on the developments in the run-up to the series. Australian fast bowler Brett Lee claimed they would whitewash India 7-0.
“That’s how the Australians are. They talk so much about the opposition. It is time they look at their own side rather than comment about others,” Zaheer said. The left-arm paceman was confident that MS Dhoni’s side would perform creditably against Australia. Zaheer also expressed faith in the fast bowlers and said that whenever someone had been out due to injury, the others have put their hand up and performed.
Talking about his return to competitive cricket in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (Twenty20) Zaheer said, “I have spent a lot of time in Johannesburg. For the last two weeks I have been bowling in the nets and have been trying to gain my bowling fitness before the match next week.” Zaheer said he was ahead of his rehabilitation schedule. He also said that he missed being in action.
Zaheer hasn’t been able to catch any of the Champions League action because of rehabilitation. “I have been spending most of my time on the field. After that, I am on the massage table. I haven’t been able to watch enough Champions League action. However, my money is on Delhi Daredevils.”
