If “game changer” Yusuf Pathan’s power-packed knocks earned him back his spot in Team India, the year 2012 too has some action-packed time, albeit of a different nature altogether, in store for the big hitter.

At least the first quarter indicates that the elder Pathan’s professional and personal innings have just begun.

If the rumour mill is to be believed, the swashbuckling batsman is all set to play a ‘knotty’ innings. Yusuf, who will turn 30 later this year in November, will get engaged this summer. Earlier, after missing the second part of the 2011 due to injury, Yusuf not only regained his place in his state team, Baroda, but also earned a spot in Team India. After celebrating success on professional front, it’s time Pathan throws a googly to make up on the personal front. The bride-to-be reportedly is a physiotherapist from Mumbai and she belongs to same caste and religion as Yusuf. Naturally, both families are happy and have agreed to bring them together. Ultimately the age-old adage holds true: ‘Mia Biwi Raaji, To Kya Karega Qaazi!’

Owing to the celebrity status that the World Cup winner enjoys, both the families are keeping the engagement a closely guarded secret. Neither are they conforming nor denying the news.

Though, everything depends on Yusuf’s availability, thanks to national duty and Indian Premier League commitments, the dates will be finalized. Yusuf was the second costliest player, behind his Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir, in the Players Auction held before the IPL-4.

Yusuf took time to come out of the shadows of his younger brother Irfan, though the elder brother was perceived to be more talented. Left-arm speedster Irfan made his debut in 2004 on Australian tour, while Yusuf donned Team India colours in 2007 at the T20 WC final against Pak.

It was followed by successful stint at the inaugural IPL season where he smashed 400 plus runs for Rajasthan Royals, who bought him for Rs1.9cr. Yusuf also hit 21-ball half century against Deccan Chargers. He was also instrumental in Rajasthan Royals’ win in the final against CSK. It was enough to impress the selectors and earn a spot in ODI team.
