The crowd was buzzing and the whole atmosphere was just perfect for Indian wrestlers Yogeshwar Dutt and Narsingh Yadav, who outclassed their respective opponents to win the gold in the men’s freestyle 60kg and 74 kg finals respectively.

The grapplers, who got a packed audience, including MP Rahul Gandhi and Haryana chief minister Bhoopinder Singh Hooda, enthralled one and all with their performances.

In the 60kg final, Yogeshwar did not give his Canadian opponent James Mancini any chance as he pocketed the tie 9-2.

In the first round, Yogeshwar grappled to get three points, while Manchini got one. The second round was even better, as Yogeshwar simply dominated the mat by snatching six points and gave only one chance to his opponent.

Interestingly, the wins have been special for both the grapplers, as on one hand Yogeshwar displayed his will power after struggling with a one and a half year long injury. “I feel it is my will power that brought me back to the game. After the knee injury, I could not wrestle for a year and half. I had to go to South Africa for the treatment, but this gold has boosted my morale and from tomorrow onwards, I will start preparing for the Asian Games,” said Yogeshwar.

On the other hand, Narsingh, who did not find a place in the Commonwealth Games squad when it was selected initially, proved his mettle by defeating South Africa’s Richard Addinall 4-0. “I have proved myself with this win and I am happy that I added one more gold to the tally,” he said.

In the 96kg category, India’s Anil Mann lost to England’s Gregor Lattigan in the first round.
