RANCHI: The female fans of India ODI captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni will have to think before approaching the dashing wicketkeeper as he is now surrounded by five women bodyguards to keep them at bay.
Dhoni will be accompanied round the clock by a special protection group of the quintet, equipped with assault rifles, who have been given training to protect him from unwanted advances by female fans.
Jharkhand police deployed the female bodyguards outside Dhoni's house when he reached Ranchi on Saturday.
Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police M S Bhatia clarified that male bodyguards would also accompany Dhoni while the women guards would take care of female fans.
"It was necessitated by his (Dhoni's) growing female fans. It is not that only female bodyguards will be deployed for Dhoni. His security team will still have five male," Bhatia said.
An 18-year-old girl had broken the security cordon and hugged Dhoni when he had landed in Kolkata for ODI series last year, although there has been no repeat of such incident yet.
"We are aware of Dhoni's huge female fan following and we have been deployed as bodyguards to keep such fans at bay," said one of the female bodyguards on duty.
