A former woman National level volleyball player, Arunima Sinha, who had lost her one leg after miscreants pushed her off a running express train in an attempt to snatch her gold chain, climbed 21,110 ft of Mt Chhamser Kangri's (21,798 ft) with her artificial limb.

Sinha, who was part of the 19-member TSAF team, climbed 21,110 ft but she had abandon the expedition 690 ft short of the summit due to bad weather condition on September 4, Bachendri Pal, chief of Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) said here today.

Three members of the team Rajendra Singh Pal, who climbed the Mt Everest early this year, Susen Mahto and Madhumita Mahto scaled the summit on September 1.

Five members of the second team - Pratim Bhowmick, Hemant Gupta, Aashu Singh, Vimal Kumar, Rohit Kumar Soren and Arunma Sinha - climbed 21,110 ft when the expedition was abandoned due to bad weather condition.

Appreciating Sinha’s determination and tenacity, Pal said she had followed the performance of Sinha very closely, who was being trained for climbing higher peaks.

"Her (Sinha’s) never give in attitude was a clear indication of her passion to reach higher and higher," she said.

"Expressing happiness over her achievement," Sinha said her ultimate dream was to conquer Mt Everest.

"I have been undergoing rigorous training and am confident that I will be succeed, probably next year," 26-year-old Sinha who lost her leg in 2011 said.

Asked about her experience to climb such a height with an artificial limb, Sinha said "she was not at all uncomfortable and scaled the 21,110 ft carrying the load comprising kits, food, water bottle etc despite the mountain being rocky and slippery."

To query what prompted her to take up the adventurous sport even after losing a leg in the incident, Sinha said the idea came to her mind only when she was going through a news report in the hospital bed about a group of people's successful expedition to Mt Everest last year.

Sinha said her elder brother, Omprakash Sinha, a former CRPF jawan, encouraged her when she disclosed her willingness to climb the Mt Everest.

"Following the discussion, I had had a talk with Bachendri Madam over phone, who had promised to train me," Sinha, who did her basic mountaineering course with A grade from Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi, said.

Thereafter, Sinha said, she did not look back and undergoing rigorous training in Uttarkashi.

Pal said she was taken aback when Sinha expressed her willingness to climb Mt Everest with an artificial limb.

Her confidence level is very high and she is prepared to climb in all weather conditions, Pal said adding that "she will have to undergo training in glaciers and crevasse (almunium ladder to cross icefalls particularly in Khumbu Icefall) before she takes up the expedition to Mt Everest."
