What’s common between cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Suresh Raina, boxing champion Vijender Singh and tennis stars Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi?

They have either started their own business ventures or are in the process of doing so because they want to have an alternate source of income.

Yuvraj started a business venture some time ago with actor Dino Morea that sees his face being used on merchandises like bags, tiffin boxes, pencil boxes, T-shirts and other goods for kids.

Yuvraj says, “I thought the merchandise market is untapped in India and kids would grab this concept.”

Meanwhile, Yuvraj’s team-mate Harbhajan Singh has launched a TV production company and Suresh Raina has opened fashion boutiques that he runs with actor Zulfi Syed.

Raina says, “We can only do this because we play good cricket. For me business or no business, I can’t take eyes off from cricket. It’s my first love. But saying that I would like to add that fashion is about glamour and style and today glamour and cricket go hand-in-hand.”

Cricketer Sreesanth has also launched a chain of restaurants. Even cricketer Zaheer Khan, who is running a restaurant in Pune, is expanding his venture in the city. The more ambitious project from his side, however, is a chain of sports cafes across India.

Others sports personalities are also not far behind. Boxer Vijender Singh is keen to open a fashion store while tennis stars Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi are running talent management firms.
