The Zoom India Oaks appears to be trainer Pesi Shroff’s race as four runners, among the 10 contenders, from his stable line up for the event which is to be run over Derby’s distance (2400m) at the Mahalaxmi race course on Sunday. Volterra is fancied for this event which is popularly known as the ‘Fillies’ Derby’, the country’s richest race for the fairer sex.
The winner of The DSV Trophy this season, Volterra is set for her second win on the trot. Smashing and Alma Mater also from Shroff’s yard should be the other main contenders. With Rs7 million in prize money, the race will be competitive.
