Three people have been charged with an alleged plot to blackmail England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney’s wife, Coleen, over pictures of their son Kai.

According to The Sun, Lee Platt, Jennifer Green and Steven Malcolm will appear in Manchester Magistrates’ Court accused of blackmail and handling stolen goods on June 20.

Coleen was allegedly the subject of a plot in which she is said to have received a demand, reportedly a “five-figure” sum, for handing over private pictures of Kai.

The photos were on a camera phone which was accidentally left at the MEN Arena, in Manchester, when the Rooneys went to a gig by the Black Eyed Peas in May last year.

A search of the VIP area after the concert failed to locate the phone, which was thought to contain ‘treasured family snaps’ of Kai, now 19 months old.

The photos were allegedly offered for sale to a number of newspapers and magazines, and Coleen was allegedly contacted with a request for money to have the phone returned.

During the prolonged investigation, Coleen is understood to have co-operated with the British Transport Police (BTP), who are responsible for policing the venue.
