The Kashmiri under-22 cricketer Parvez Rasool, who was detained by Bangalore police on suspicion of carrying explosives, has been selected for the North Zone team for the forthcoming Deodhar trophy starting next month.

Parvez was detained by Bangalore police on October 17 just days ahead of their match thus creating quite a stir across Jammu and Kashmir.

Though, he was later released, the issue snowballed into major controversy with chief minister Omar Abdullah hitting out at the Bangalore police for making him “scapegoat”.The forensic tests also proved he did not carry any explosive material in his luggage.

Leaving behind the ordeal, Parvez is now preparing for the North Zone team. “I have left the episode behind. God was perhaps trying to test my perseverance. I am thankful to J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) who supported me wholeheartedly during those days. Now, my whole concentration is on cricket and I want to do my best in the forthcoming matches,” Parvez told DNA.

Parvez was the highest scorer from Jammu and Kashmir in Ranji Trophy one-dayers. He scored 275 runs in five matches with 81 as his highest against Punjab. “I was also called for the trails by one of the IPL teams for trail. I am hopeful that if I perform well I would get a chance next time”, he said.

Hailing from Bijbhera Township of south Kashmir, Parvez is now dreaming of wearing a national cap and make the country proud. “Now I have been chosen, I want to do my best for the team,” he said.
