Senior Selection Committee chairman Krishnamachari Srikkanth today said there was "terrific"cricketing talent in the interior parts of the country, and stressed the need for taking the game to these areas rather than confining the game to the metros.
"I always believe that there is terrific cricketing talent in the interior parts of India. There is a need to take cricket to the interior parts of the country than just confining the sport to the metros," he said.
Srikkanth was speaking at the inaugural All Kerala Inter collegiate Aircel T20 cricket tournament at the Palace Oval grounds at nearby Tripunithura.
Referring to S Sreesanth, he said young players from Kerala should try to emulate the India pacer.
"He had made it to Team India, and had won matches for the country. He would be an inspiration to young players from the state," said Srikkanth.
Asked whether India would be able to maintain their new world number one Test status, Srikkanth said "let's not talk negatively", but did not elaborate.
