Mumbai Cricket Association’s managing committee has decided to summon coach Sulakshan Kulkarni for his remarks against Wasim Jaffer after the team’s loss in the Ranji Trophy semifinal.
It was decided at the managing committee meeting on Friday that Kulkarni will be asked to “explain his comments.”
After Mumbai lost to Tamil Nadu, Kulkarni called Jaffer a defensive captain with a defensive approach. The remark hasn’t gone down well with MCA officials who believe the coach should not have made it public.
“When the team was doing well, everything seemed hunky-dory,” one MCA official said. “Suddenly, after one loss, he makes a statement to the press which is just not done. And you are talking about a man who has scored prolifically for Mumbai and was the captain not too long ago.”
The committee has also asked MCA’s honourary secretaries to shortlist candidates for the position of director of coaching at the indoor academy. They will prepare a draft report detailing the academy’s budget, including the director’s salary.
The academy has been non-functional since the MCA elections last July.
