Manan Chandra defeated Reanne Evans 5-1 in the pre-quarterfinals of the CCI open invitational snooker tournament on Thursday. The India number 8 was dominant throughout the game and lost only his second frame to the Briton. He won 69-17 28-71 63-2 88(84)-8 71(64)-9 123(116)-0.

Chandra, who represents Bharat Petroleum, identified better striking and more confidence as the reasons for such an overwhelming victory.

“I have found great form in this tournament and came into the pre-quarters with a lot of confidence. On the other hand, Reanne has not had a good tournament. She qualified in the fourth position from the group. This is the first tournament in a year where I have really played well, I made a big break of 140 in the group games,” said the 29-year-old potter.

The Delhi cueist was impressed by his opponent and said, “She is by far the best woman player in the world and can give the men a run for their money. This is the first time I am playing against a lady in a big tournament.”

The other international that Chandra has played in the tournament so far is Jimmy White and he identified that game as the highlight of the tournament for him.

“Jimmy White is a legend in snooker and just playing him is a big high. Playing against him in my first group match and beating him was a great confidence-booster. He had beaten my father almost 30 years ago when he was at his peak. So this was kind of a sweet revenge for me but I was not thinking of it and was there just enjoying my game,” Chandra said.

Chandra considers this tournament a great opportunity to play against professional players from England. “Playing with all the players from the UK is a big bonus for us in the tournament. It helps us realise what standards of the game are needed if we want to play professionally over there,” said Chandra.
