Rajasthan Royals have rubbished reports of that the BCCI proposing to scrap the side from the Indian Premier League. “The reports are baseless and speculative. There is no such move or information from the BCCI which would suggest anything to this effect,” a statement said.

Reports in a section of the media said the BCCI is contemplating scrapping the Jaipur-based franchise because of its alleged dubious ownership pattern to send a strong message that it will not tolerate any dubious financial dealing in the IPL.

“These rumors have been clearly perpetrated by people with vested interests and are deliberately aimed at maligning the reputation of the Royals and causing them harm,” the statement said.

The Royals are locked in controversy with some reports suggesting that suspended IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has stakes in the team. Royals team is co-owned by Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra, Modi’s brother-in-law Suresh Chellaram and London-based businessman Manoj Badale.
