Top international tennis stars, including Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Caroline Wozniacki and Ana Ivanovic, have donated their sports gear for generating funds for Pakistan’s flood affected people.
Pakistani tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has initiated a campaign to raise funds in collaboration with the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tennis Federation.
“Aisam-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s tennis star, has collected the sports gear from the players which will be sold during a live telethon,” the Dawn quoted a PTF official, as saying as he shared Aisam’s father Ehtesham-ul-Haq’s email.
According to the email, Federer and Murray have donated their shoes and racquets, while Djokovic and Liezel Huber donated their shirts. Azarenka has donated her cap, and Ivanovic her tennis skirt.
All the proceeds, he said, would go to the victims of the floods.
The official said that Aisam was also expecting to receive few items from his Indian partner, Rohan Bopanna, and Spain’s Rafael Nadal.
“Aisam will also be contributing his own racquet, shoes and playing gear, which he used at the US Open,” he added.
According to the United Nations, the recent monsoon floods have so far killed 270 persons in Sindh and other parts of Pakistan, affected over 5.5 million and destroyed 1.1 million homes.
“Aisam is also willing to play an exhibition match with international stars for generating funds for the affectees,” the official quoted Aisam’s father, as saying.
