Reserve Bank of India (RBI) of Ahmedabad got off to a winning start in their Gujarat State Champions Club league campaign for the Susan Memorial Trophy, recording an overwhelming victory over Mohammaden Sporting of Surat, at the St Xavier’s High School, Loyola Hall ground on Monday. RBI scored two goals on either side of the break in their 4-0 win.
Prolific striker Rajiv Karir opened the account for RBI three minutes after the start. The RBI score was doubled when Praveen Thakor netted one in the 16th minute as RBI dominated the first half with a series of attacks. The Surat team’s depleted defence made it easier for RBI. In the 64th minute of the match, a subtle move by Vinish made it 3-0 before Anil Pal Tomar’s effort sealed the victory for the home team.
In the three-team round robin league to select the state representative, Mohammaden Sporting will face Vadodara’s Rangers on Tuesday. The team with the maximum points will represent Gujarat in the forthcoming Federation Cup.
