A meeting of the Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will take place at the Cricket Centre here on Wednesday.

Finalisation of logistical and operational issues pertaining to IPL 5 is believed to be the reason for the impromptu meeting, called at a short notice.

The GC is likely to finalise the opening ceremony to be held in Chennai on April 4. A presentation of the ceremony is likely to be made before the members of the GC. A decision on the appointment of private security consultants of the league is likely to be made. Nicholls and Steyn Associates provide the security service for IPL.

An update on Sahara Pune Warriors is also part of the agenda. The members of the GC are likely to be apprised of the situation following the settlement with the Pune Warriors. The GC is likely to ratify the new agreement reached with the Warriors, who are now willing to be in the IPL fold after threatening to pull out of the Twenty20 competition.

It is the second GC meeting in a span of 10 days. It is learnt that before the settlement with Pune Warriors was reached, a telephonic GC meeting was held among the members.

Interestingly, one of the key points of the agenda, it is learnt, is a discussion on IPL 6. The exact nature of discussion is not known but sources within the GC say the process of planning for the 2013 edition may be initiated at the meeting.
